EIRC of ICAI Marks Historic 50th Regional Conference in Kolkata with Record Participation

Kolkata, 24 November 2025: Eastern India Regional Council (EIRC) of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India celebrated its landmark iconic 50th (Golden Jubilee) Regional Conference in Kolkata. The Conference centred on the theme EYE – Ethics, Youth, Empower, underscoring the profession’s unwavering commitment to ethical practice, the growing role of young professionals and the continuous empowerment of members.
The Conference was inaugurated by Shri Snehasis Chakraborty, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Transport Dept. West Bengal as Chief Guest and Shri Hari Mohan Bangur, Chairman, Shree Cement Limited as Guest of Honour in the august presence of CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, Hon’ble President, ICAI, CA. Prasanna Kumar D, Hon’ble Vice-President, ICAI, Past Presidents, Past Chairpersons  of Eastern region and Central and Regional Council Members of ICAI.
Alongside the event, CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, Hon’ble President, ICAI, interacted with the media. Addressing the press, he remarked that history has been created in Kolkata, with the Golden Jubilee Regional Conference witnessing a record participation of more than 4,500 members, the highest ever for EIRC and congratulated EIRC Chairman, CA. Vishnu Kumar Tulsyan and his team. 
CA. Nanda emphasized that India, today stands as a global leader in technology and Artificial Intelligence is an enabler and assistant for Chartered Accountants and can never replace human intelligence. He informed that ICAI has already trained 30,000 members in AI and has launched AURA, a dedicated AI course for students. Training initiatives are also being extended to members and students outside India.
Highlighting the profession’s inclusivity, the President added that the CA profession is highly suited for women, with every third Chartered Accountant in India being a woman, and 44% of CA students being women. ICAI continues to promote commerce education across the country through wide-ranging career counselling programmes.
He also reiterated ICAI’s commitment to aligning with global best practices. ICAI is working closely with Government on matters contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat. As a knowledge partner in policy making, ICAI prepares a comprehensive Pre-Budget Memorandum and subsequently a Post-Budget Memorandum, to highlight focus areas and provide constructive inputs for national development.
President Nanda also briefed the media about the recent landmark Supreme Court judgment, which affirmed that Chartered Accountants with 10 years of experience are fully eligible for appointment as Members (Accountant) of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), placing them at par with Advocates for such positions. 
The Regional Conference (Golden Jubilee) of EIRC was a carbon neutral event certified by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( UNFCCC). The two day conference was enthusiastically participated by members with plethora of technical/parallel sessions dealt by experts and dignitaries from the country as well as abroad.
