Building for Collective Life: Ambuja Neotia unveils 3rd B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition at Kalavaani, Swabhumi

Kolkata, August 22, 2026: Ambuja Neotia Group inaugurated the third edition of B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition, an annual tribute to the enduring legacy of India’s first Pritzker laureate, Balkrishna V. Doshi, at Rangmanch, Raajkutir. Continuing its commitment to celebrating architects whose work reflects excellence, integrity and a deep engagement with society, this year's exhibition features the work of architect Madhusudhan Chalasani, Founder and Principal Architect of MADe.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group, said: “B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition was conceived not simply to remember an extraordinary architect, but to continue the conversations that he inspired. Through this year's exhibition and the Prabir Mitra Memorial Award, we celebrate architecture that places people at its centre, engages thoughtfully with the public realm and contributes meaningfully to society.”
Titled In Pursuit of Publicness, the exhibition explores Madhusudhan Chalasani and MADe’s sustained enquiry into architecture as a framework for collective life. Through built and unbuilt projects, drawings, models and research, the exhibition examines how architecture can create places that remain open, adaptable and deeply connected to the public realm.
Speaking about the exhibition, Ar. Madhusudhan Chalasani said, “Publicness is not declared but constructed — through voids, thresholds and streets that let the city continue through a building. This exhibition gathers nearly two decades of that pursuit, mostly unrealised, in memory of an architect who saw built form as a backdrop for shared life.”
The occasion was graced by veteran architect Rajeev Kathpalia, Partner at Vastu Shilpa Consultants and close associate of B.V. Doshi, and Radhika Doshi, daughter of B.V. Doshi and wife of Rajeev Kathpalia.

The evening also witnessed the presentation of the prestigious 2nd Prabir Mitra Memorial Award, instituted in memory of renowned architect Prabir Mitra, to recognize the most promising architect whose work demonstrates design excellence, responsible practice and a meaningful contribution to the built environment. The winner for this year’s award was Udit Mittal, Principal Architect and Co-Founder, QX Design, who was chosen by an eminent jury panel comprising architects Abin Chaudhuri, Vivek Singh Rathore, Pritthijit Kundu, Partha Ranjan Das and Subir Kumar Basu.
Bringing together architects, designers, students, academicians and cultural thinkers, the evening reaffirmed Ambuja Neotia Group's commitment to nurturing architectural discourse and recognising practices that shape better cities and richer public life.
The exhibition will remain open at Kalavaani, Swabhumi, from 23rd August to 6th September 2026, Monday to Thursday: 4 pm - 8 pm, Friday to Sunday: 12 pm - 8 pm.
