Staff Reporter; 11th March, 2023 Saturday: Marking International Women's Day, under the theme, “Role of literature in Digital Age for achieving Gender Equality”, ibis Kolkata, Rajarhat holds a panel discussion as well as celebrates the remarkable achievements of women and girls in our societies. The eminent panelists were Urmila Sen, Debarati Mukhopadhyay, and Pranati Tagore.
Urmila Sen is an Associate Professor, Department of Economics and president of newtown book fair. Debarati Mukhopadhyay is among the best-known writers of Bengali literature. She is a young government employee who became famous very quickly and is the author of more than 20 best-selling books, including Ishwarer Antim Shwas, Dakatraja, Shikhandi, and Ishwar Jakhan Bandi and Pranati Tagore is a renowned and eminent elocutionist, news reader and Bengali actor. The curators for the event were Rupa Majumdar, Director of Raunaq Publication along with Paromita Ghosh, Director of Candid Communication.
This year's International Women's Day celebration honoured and celebrated the women and girls who are leading the charge for the development of transformative technology and digital education. The awareness of women and girls about their rights and civic engagement can be raised by using a gender-responsive approach to innovation, technology, and digital education. The objectives states the potential for innovations that meet women's needs and advance gender equality is increased when women and other marginalized groups are involved in the development of technology. Contrarily, their exclusion has significant financial consequences.
Every year ibis Kolkata, Rajarhat celebrates International Women’s Day honoring women achievers of the society. This year 8-10 female employee of ibis were present at the event along with Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI ) which is a National Business Chamber for Women, Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry. They boost and build women's entrepreneurship and businesses through greater engagement with government, institutions, global trade and networks. Together they marked the International Women’s Day and felicitated as well as commemorated the speakers present for the discussion. General Manager of ibis Kolkata, Rajarhat Ajit Jose said, “I am delighted to be a part of this event celebrated every year at ibis. This IWD 2023 will explore the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities.”
